The Sync Energy Wall Charger 2 EVWC2T7G is a 7.4kW single-phase tethered EV charger with a 7.5m Type 2 cable. It is the Wi-Fi and LAN tethered model in the Wall Charger 2 range, designed for home or light commercial installations where a fixed cable is preferred over a socketed outlet. The charger delivers Mode 3 charging at up to 32A on a 220-240V supply and includes Auto Solar Charging, Tariff Sense, full smart app control and OCPP 1.6J connectivity. Built-in open PEN conductor protection removes the need for an earth rod, while integrated 30mA AC Type A RCD protection and 6mA DC protection support a cleaner circuit design. A Wi-Fi, LAN and 4G sibling is available where mobile data is needed.

  • 7.4kW single-phase Mode 3 tethered charger
  • 7.5m tethered Type 2 cable and plug
  • EVWC2T7G connectivity: Wi-Fi and RJ45 LAN
  • EVWC2T7GG sibling adds 4G connectivity
  • Auto Solar Charging and Tariff Sense included
  • Integrated open PEN conductor protection, no earth rod required
  • IP65 and IK10 rated UV stabilised polycarbonate housing

Why choose the tethered Wall Charger 2?

The tethered format keeps the Type 2 cable permanently attached to the charger. That is useful where the same vehicle or vehicle type will usually use the bay, because the driver does not need to retrieve a separate charging cable for every session. The 7.5m cable gives reach across typical driveway and parking layouts while keeping the connector stored on the built-in gun holster when not in use.

The charger has built-in cable wrap and gun holster cable management. Its housing dimensions are 305mm high, 201mm wide and 115mm deep, with wall mounting via a 4-point fixing layout and horizontal and vertical adjustment. The base and body are black RAL 9005, with an anthracite grey trim as standard and optional coloured trims available as accessories.

Solar charging, tariffs and app control

Auto Solar Charging allows the charger to use excess solar generation for EV charging when installed with the supplied load management kit. The box contents include one EVA120CT1 CT clamp and one CT clamp connector for load balancing and Auto Solar Charge. The CT clamp is fitted around the incoming power to the main fuse before tails are split, with installer setup used to enter the correct maximum load.

Tariff Sense connects to UK tariff data to give real-time charging cost insight and control. The charger also has full smart functionality through the Sync Energy app and supports OCPP 1.6J connectivity. Over-the-air software and firmware updates are listed, helping keep the charger current without replacing the wall unit.

Protection installers look for

The Wall Charger 2 tethered model includes integrated open PEN conductor protection, so no earth rod is required when installed in line with the guide. RCD protection is built in as 30mA AC Type A protection with 6mA DC protection. Overcurrent and load protection are also listed.

The installation guide states that the charger is for competent electrical installers and is suitable for installation inside or outside on a solid wall or structure. Connectors are suitable for 4-10mm² cable sizes. Rear cable entry is suitable for a 25mm hole size, while base cable entry is suitable for 16-32mm hole size. A dedicated 40A circuit breaker is referenced for supply protection in the guide.

Wi-Fi, LAN and 4G variant choice

EVWC2T7G is the Wi-Fi and LAN tethered model. EVWC2T7GG keeps the same 7.4kW single-phase output, 7.5m tethered Type 2 cable and smart charging feature set, but adds 4G. The charging power and tethered format do not change between those two variants.

Choose the Wi-Fi and LAN model where the charger location has reliable home or site networking. Choose the 4G model where the charger needs mobile data as part of the connectivity plan. The datasheet states that 4G data is model specific, with 3 years included when used with Sync Energy on the included package and online top-up available after that period.

LED status and commissioning details

The charger uses an RGB LED and buzzer indicator. Listed indicator modes include blue for standby, flashing blue for preparing, green for charging, yellow for no network, red for error and purple for balancer error. Those visible states help installers and end users distinguish between charging, network and load balancing conditions at the unit.

Bluetooth 4.2 BR/EDR and BLE are listed for commissioning. Wi-Fi uses 2.4GHz 802.11 b/g/n, and wired network connection is via RJ45. The charger supports WPA, WPA2, WPA2 Enterprise and WPS Wi-Fi security. For related domestic chargers, use the LAMPS home EV chargers range and the EV charger installation guide.
