Ideal for

  • Single-phase Sync Energy EV charger installations
  • Sites managing available supply across compatible chargers
  • Projects needing a supplied 120A CT clamp
  • Internal installations close to the monitored supply

Works well with

  • Compatible Sync Energy EV chargers
  • RS485 charger communication wiring up to 150m
  • Incoming live conductor CT measurement
  • External RS485 Modbus meters where supported

The Sync Energy EVAB1ESP120 is a single-phase EV load balancer kit supplied with one 120A split core CT clamp. It is built for compatible Sync Energy charger installations where available supply capacity must be shared across one or more charge points without exceeding the set circuit limit. The kit includes the balancer hub in an IP20 enclosure, one 120A CT, MCB and wiring terminals, making it the complete single-phase kit in the EVAB1 range. The balancer is powered from a 220-240V, 50-60Hz single-phase supply and communicates with connected chargers through RS485. It supports up to 16 compatible chargers per hub, provided the circuits and minimum current requirements are suitable. For installers, the main buying reason is controlled expansion: charger demand can be managed dynamically rather than relying on fixed conservative settings.

  • Single-phase dynamic EV load balancer kit
  • Supplied with 1 x 120A split core CT clamp
  • Balancer hub supplied in an IP20 enclosure
  • Includes MCB and wiring terminals
  • 220-240V, 50-60Hz supply to the balancer
  • RS485 communication to compatible chargers
  • Supports up to 16 compatible chargers per hub

Single-phase load management use

EVAB1ESP120 is intended for single-phase installations where the incoming supply or EV circuit needs active monitoring. The CT clamp is fitted around the incoming live conductor before the tails are split, so the hub can read the load correctly. The installation guide specifies the CT arrow direction and allows CT readings to be checked in the Bluetooth installer app, which helps installers confirm orientation before the chargers are relied on.

The value of the 120A kit is that it is matched to single-phase current monitoring and supplied with the required CT clamp. That makes it different from EVAB1D, which is the hub only option with accessories sold separately. For sites where the single-phase CT is required, the kit reduces specification risk and helps keep the installation parts list clear.

How connected chargers are controlled

The balancer communicates with compatible chargers over RS485 and allocates power according to the configured limit. It does not pass the charger supply current through the hub. The guide states that the hub monitors EV circuits or the complete building supply, while the chargers remain supplied by their own EV circuits.

Up to 16 compatible chargers can be connected to one hub. The communication cable from the balancer to the last connected charger can be up to 150m, and chargers can be looped in and out or wired directly back to the balancer. If communication is lost, connected chargers fall back to a 6A maximum charge rate and show a balancer communication fault, which gives a defined reduced output state.

Installation points before commissioning

The balancer enclosure is suitable for internal use only and should be installed close to the incoming power or monitored EV circuit. The CT clamp cable should not be extended beyond 50m. Those two facts should influence the enclosure position, because placing the balancer too far from the metering point can make the CT route unsuitable.

Commissioning can be completed via the installer app or through the hub screen and buttons. The installer selects the installation type, sets the maximum circuit current limit and confirms CT configuration. If an external RS485 Modbus meter is used, the app allows the meter to be enabled and its communication details entered after compatibility has been checked.

Choosing EVAB1ESP120 or EVAB1ETP400

EVAB1ESP120 is the single-phase kit with one 120A CT clamp. EVAB1ETP400 is the three-phase kit with three 400A CT clamps. Both are supplied in IP20 enclosures with the hub, MCB and wiring terminals, and both are designed for compatible Sync Energy charger load management. Select the 120A kit where the monitored supply is single phase. Select the 400A kit where a three-phase monitored supply is required.

For charger projects where the panel already has a planned mounting arrangement and CTs are being ordered separately, EVAB1D is the hub only alternative. The three choices sit in the same Sync Energy balancer family, so the correct buying decision comes down to phase arrangement, CT requirement and whether an enclosure is needed. Related charger accessories sit in the LAMPS EV ancillaries range, while larger charger projects can be planned alongside commercial EV chargers.

EVAB1ESP120 questions installers ask

What is included with EVAB1ESP120?

EVAB1ESP120 includes the balancer hub in an IP20 enclosure, one 120A split core CT, MCB and wiring terminals. It is the single-phase kit rather than the hub only version.

Can it manage more than one charger?

Yes. The Sync Energy balancer range supports up to 16 compatible chargers per hub. Each connected charger must be configured for balancer multi-charger management during setup.

Where should the CT clamp be fitted?

The CT clamp is fitted around the incoming live conductor before any tails are split. Correct orientation is required, and readings can be checked through the Bluetooth installer app.
